  • Continuity: As with any long-running show there are many inconsistencies between series. Characters' life histories, their birthdays and ages are reported differently from time to time as the writers invent new stuff for them that wasn't thought of when the series began.

  • Continuity: With an average of 24 episodes per season of a show which ran for ten seasons there are, inevitably, many hundreds of minor continuity errors, with cups, hair and clothes inexplicably moving between shots - even people sometimes.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Even the show's designer has commented on the fact that the Central Perk sign on the window can be read correctly from both inside and outside the coffee shop. But viewers have noticed that the logo is symmetrical and suggest that it isn't unfeasible for the owners to have placed a sign on the inside of the window which completely covers the one on the outside, making it readable from both sides.

  • Factual errors: Joey is a regular on "Days of Our Lives" while living in New York. But "Days of Our Lives" is taped in Los Angeles.

  • Continuity: In early seasons there are wood boards in Monica's apartment that go from the floor to the ceiling. In later seasons there are only wood boards by the fridge. In fact, certain directors for the show enjoyed putting their own mark on the episodes they directed. In the case of the visible wooden beam furthest "downstage" it was known as the mark of James Burrows, and would appear every time he directed an episode.

  • Continuity: In earlier seasons, Chandler and Joey's apartment number is #4 while Monica and Rachel's is #5; in later seasons, the numbers change to #19 and #20.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the pilot episode, the guy who Rachel left at the altar is called Barry Finkel. In all the other episodes his name is Barry Farber. He has also been called Barry White.

  • Anachronisms: Ross' birthday changes several times during the show. For example, it goes from December in the first episodes to October 18th in the later episodes.

  • Revealing mistakes: Several times throughout the series the cast can be seen with Safeway Select products, which are available in California where the show is taped but not in New York where the show takes place.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Joey is a regular on "Days of Our Lives" while living in New York. But "Days of Our Lives" is taped in Los Angeles. However, since most characters featured on the fictitious "DOOL" were not actually on the real show, the fact that it's filmed in New York could just be another characteristic to this fictitious version.

  • Factual errors: When Phoebe's boyfriend David got the job in Minsk, they said that Minsk is in Russia. Minsk is the capital city of Belarus, which is not the part of Russia.

  • Continuity: The spelling of Rachel's surname (according to the subtitles on the dvds) changes from 'Greene' in the earlier seasons to 'Green' in later seasons.

  • Continuity: When Erica (the birth mother of Monica and Chandler's twins) is giving birth to the babies, no one knows that she is having twins until the first has been born and the doctor tells them that there's another coming. Yet, in _"Friends" The One with the Birth Mother (2004)_ (season 10 episode 9), Erica shows Monica and Chandler a sonogram of the baby - surely this would've shown she was having twins.

  • Continuity: In the earlier episodes the balcony of Monica's flat is nearly square shaped but in the later episodes it is more rectangular and a lot smaller.
