Mid to late last year, conjecture was abound as to whether this 8th season of Smallville would be the last season, as had been originally planned.
Many factors were floating around as to the outcome. Does The CW stick to the original plan? Do ratings have an impact on the plans? What about actor availability? Do we, the viewers want a 9th season? Ok, that last one was a duh.
This season has seen some pretty good plot lines. We’ve seen a few new characters, we’re about to meet the Legion of Superheroes from the 31st century and wait ’til we find out who sent them! We’re going to be seeing The Toyman in February and heck, even Tori Spelling is going to reprise her role of gossip columnist Linda Lake for at least one episode.
Back in December, ratings were telling The CW that the show should go on.

You can be forgiven for believing "Smallville" would be facing a kryptonite-infused series conclusion at the end of the current eighth season. But now it looks like The CW are keen to keep the Boy-of-Steel around for another year ... and they are willing to pay to get their wish. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that series actor Tom Welling is in serious discussions with the network to renew his contract for a ninth season. Even better, the deal involved some series additions to his paycheck. "There's news, and it's good. Some would even call it, ahem, super," Michael Ausiello said in his column. "According to a well-placed 'Smallville' insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I'm told they're just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks ...

Guinea pigs in the employ of the FBI? Well, why the hell not? This is a live action film with digital rodents voiced by Nicolas Cage, Penelope Cruz, Steve Buscemi, and Tracy Morgan. I have to imagine this one got green lit after Alvin and the Chipmunks started pulling in the bucks. The concept has a certain goofy charm, but the trailer has surprisingly few laughs. Judge for yourself on July 24.
Streetfighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
When I hear "Streetfighter" I think more of the Sonny Chiba film The Street Fighter and its sequels, but that's a different franchise entirely. This film is of course based on the long running series of video games (the first of which was released in 1987 as an arcade game) and stars the lovely Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame. The trailer is a little hard to follow since the narration is in Japanese. What
